Thank you so much.

You could research the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire.

This is a link to the Wikipedia article, but you can find lots of information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle_Shirtwaist_Factory_fire.

At the end of 2012 I will be going to Borneo with my school, organised by world challenge. The trip costs $6300 and I am trying to find some sponsorship to help me raise this money. I have organised a walk from my school in Ringwood to Federation Square in Melbourne, hopinh that this will gain sponsorship. But I am a little stuck for Companies to ask for sponsorship, and am not sure what types of companies will be willing to sponsor. Does anyone have any suggestions?

At best you have no chance at all. You might not have heard but there is a serious economic crisis world wide right now. Companies are struggling to pay their basic day-to-day bills let alone consider your hair-brained proposal. You might try working for the money.

I want to start eating in a way that supports ethical and humane treatment of animals. What are some companies that raise animals humanely? Ex) No growth hormones, free range, no abuse, etc. I refuse to buy meat from Tyson and Butterball because I have seen horrible footage from their "farms" What other companies should I add to my "refuse to buy" list? And what are some good companies I should buy from?

Well, as with any company you’re just going to want to do your homework. Purchasing from Farmer Markets/Family Markets may be the safe way to go as it’s not much of a supply-demand driven operation. Or even researching websites dedicated to the same or share the same morals may produce reputable results. Best of luck.

Well, they all have to die before they’re "processed". Consumers are so picky these days that they have to have the tenderest, youngest meat. All old animals (if they’re lucky enough to reach old age) are deemed inedible and tough, and are processed into pet foods, fertilisers and chicken nuggets.

Some companies, with large fleets of vehicles, have their own service and maintenance departments. Does Ford Motor Company have a program set up for these companies to perform their own warranty repairs? If so, where can I find more information about that program?

To my knowledge, NO. Since the builder is fully responsible for the defect, it must be corrected by the same, and to document the repair or recall of the vehicle. This way it insures that the work was done to the manufacturer’s standards and the proper parts were installed. Even companies like Hertz and Avis have to take cars back to the local dealers when a Recall is issued and a warranty problem arises.

I know this because of Avis is being sued by a family for NOT getting a recalled vehicle into a Ford center, and the car went up in flames killing the person renting the defective car. Avis knew that the car was under Recall and just didn’t want to take the car out of service because it would lose too much money from it’s rental value.

So I have qualified for globals for this competition, but it costs roughly $1800 for the plane ticket to get there and back. So, I need to raise money and was just planning to ask companies to sponsor me. This is for educational purposes, so that might help with the decision making. However, I have found that many companies, like BP, sponsor things like upcoming businesses NOT individuals or teams. Are there any companies I could/should ask?

They cannot give money like this to individuals! IF they set up a competitive scholarship program, or if they donate to an IRS-approved school or charity with tax deductible status, they can. Do not solicit funds from anyone! You and/or your parents have to pay for this.

When an investor gives money to a start-up company (or any company for that matter), how does it retain the original amount given? Does the company pay interest until the amount is covered, or does the investor get a stake in the company, or both?

How much of a percentage would an investor who gives $10K to a start-up company hold in the company? Or can the company just choose to pay back the loan over a period of time?

Basically, how do investors make their money off of companies?

First of all, most start-up companies go out of business within the first year so investors usually lose their money by then. However, putting that aside, there are a number of ways a person can invest in a start-up. First, you can loan the money and ask for interest monthly, yearly, or whichever way both you and the company agrees upon. You should also have a date when the principal should be repaid in full. Next, you can become a shareholder in the company. Your stake in the company is strictly negotiable, since there is no real value of the company. Even though you invest $10,000 and suppose the total investment by all shareholders is $50,000, the founders can claim their time, knowledge, etc is worth a percentage of the company even if they do not invest any money. Even though you invested 20% of the money, you could own as little as 1% of the company based on the perceived value of the owners’ non-money contribution.

Everything is negotiable in a start-up, and everybody has their own interpretation of their value to that start-up. Make sure you have in writing whatever agreement takes place, and also make sure that, if the company succeeds, you get rights for additional stock at the same price as others should there be a secondary stock issue. It is very simple, yet extremely complicated at the same time. Best of luck!

Looking to start transporting autos on a 3-4 car wedge trailer towed behind a 1 ton dually truck with fifth wheel. I know that McNutt is such a company, but what other companies could I sign on with to haul cars with this setup? Most companies that I have seen use a 6 or 7 car trailer with a semi. I have a CDL, but do not want to drive a semi.

I had a bad experience with Mcnutt and won’t allow their contracted drivers on my lot. Alot of auctions and dealers are using RAT, Ready Auto Transport. You could make more money being an independent hauler, call around to some of the car dealers in your area and ask them to let you give them a quote on hauling their cars to and from auto auctions, word of mouth is the best advertising.
