We met for more than an hour today with a Palm product manager responsible of the company’s new smartphone the Pre. Then we received a live demonstration, shown here.

Palm assumed a substantial amount of debt as part of a private equity deal with Elevation partners, and paid out the majority of their cash as special dividend to shareholders. Then the company was battered with competition from Research in Motion and Apple.

Jon Rubenstein, formerly an Apple Executive, is Chairman of Palm and lead the design of the company’s newest offering. In our opinion, the device is substantially more advanced than an iPhone, offering all of the iPhone’s features plus a number of things Apple’s phone cannot do, such as true multi-tasking and global search for contacts and apps. Also, there is likely to be substantial third party development for the Pre because programmers can write applications in JAVA Script, HTML and CSS, which are very common languages. They do not have to conform to the more challenging development environments of iPhone and Android.

the owner of an albuquerque company– that accepts and distributes body parts for research — is now charged with fraud. 31-year-old paul montano is charged with three counts — after a shipment of body parts was sent from albuquerque to a kansas medical waste plant. but the fraud charges aren’t based on the mishandling of those bodies. kayla anderson is live from biocare in northeast albuquerque to explain. kayla? there’s no law on the books in new mexico to handle a case where a body is mistreated. so, i asked the d-a, why fraud charges? the answer is… the families of the three bodies that have been id’d so far… don’t know if they really have the ashes of the right person or a strangers. “this is a real unusual case. any case that the law doesn’t provide for, such as this, these circumstances, is a very unusual case.” an unusual case– with some unusual details. according to the criminal complaint…. montano’s company, called biocare… receives donated bodies. he gives the organs to medical and research faciliities. and the organs are later returned to biocare once those facilities are done with them. the entire body is then cremated– free of charge– and the ashes are returned to the donor famiiles. but investigators say that’s clearly not what happened this week– when a shipment of heads and torsos mistakenly ended up in kansas. “well, they find out later that the cremation really isn’t taking place, or at least not with the whole body, and so they’re being defrauded.” according to the crimianl complaint– montano denied dismembering any of the bodies. but district attorney kari brandenburg says– even if that were the case– there’s no law on new mexico books to charge him with. “a body in and of itself does not have any value. it certainly does have a lot of value to the family members and the loved ones, but objectively it’s hard to define that with a value.” today the judge lowered montano’s bond– to fifty thousand cash or surety. montano’s lawyer says his company was non-profit, and it’s not likely he’ll be able to post bond. i talked to montano’s lawyer outside the courtroom today. we’ll hear more from him at six. meanwhile, the d-a says montano could face more charges if other bodies are identified.

What company should I research If I want to teach english in Asia? GEOS, ACLIPSE, JET?

I am a college graduate with a B.S in Business Admin and I am working on my masters. I am thinking of teaching English in Asia, but do not know where or what companies to look for. My friend taught english in Japan with a company called GEOS? I am looking for a company that provides salary, benefits and place to live. I am a native english speaker but I also speak vietnamese and chinese.

You’ll need your basic qualifications (degree and TEFL – Teaching English as a Foreign Language – certificate which can be taken either in a local school or online).

Most people who teach in Asia find jobs themselves and don’t use an agency. There are plenty to see online (but never, ever, pay anyone to help find you work – they get paid by the schools and not the teachers).

What I’d suggest is first deciding where you’d like to teach and then doing a simple search online for jobs there. Some TEFL course providers will also help find you work (e.g. ICAL).

GeoVax Labs, Inc., a clinical stage biotechnology company, develops human vaccines for diseases caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other infectious agents. Its DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and MVA (Modified Vaccinia Ankara) vaccines are in Phase II human clinical trial by the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. The company was founded in 2001 and is based in Atlanta, Georgia.

GeoVax’s AIDS (HIV-1) Vaccines, initially developed at Emory University by Dr. Harriet Robinson, currently GeoVax’s Senior Vice President of Research and Development, in collaboration with researchers at the NIAID (NIH) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), are recombinant DNA and MVA vaccines. Our focus is on developing AIDS vaccines comprising the major HIV-1 subtypes (A, B and C). These vaccines can be used alone or in combination depending on a local infection. Our first priority is subtype B which is most common in North America, the European Union, Japan and Australia.

When administered in series, our AIDS vaccines induce strong cellular and humoral immunity (protection) in non human primates against multiple HIV-1 (AIDS virus) proteins. This suggests that GeoVax’s vaccines will provide protection against the development of AIDS in HIV-1 virus infected people.
