   so what does heat …
   so what does heat and smoke do? it rises right? thats the main reason for a roof vent….get rid of the crap that is gonna make the attack crew’s job harder than it needs to be. ya O2 will enter the vent hole and make the fire grow but if the vent is coordinated with an engine attck crew then its not given the opportunity to grow enough to make the fire worse.

   The heat and smoke …
   The heat and smoke are all going to travel to the hole. But what the hole does is, it lets all the super heated air, and gases, exit the building, so it wont all build up. That way when the Engine company enters the building, they can fight the fire, and the chance of flash over is reduced.

    no the fire will try and find the source of oxygen so wen u vent a hole in the roof the heat fire and what ever else will try and get to that hole for oxygen

    what i don’t under …
    what i don’t under stand is if they ventilate the roof oxygen gets to the fire from that open hole in the roof wouldn’t that make the fire inside the building burn faster and even make it extend to other parts?

    In reality for FDNY …
    In reality for FDNY it goes by closest apparatus. If they believe they may require a tower or tiller they can be special called. hope this helps.

    how does the NYFD decide to respond a
    tiller or a rear mounted ladder truck
    which is better in most cases?
