Do I need to research a company extensively before I get an internship interview with them?

March 52010

I’ve been to many interviews and have been turned down by them all. Usually, I researched the company and fallen head over heels in love with the company before applying for them. This usually takes quite a lot of time, but I’ve been listening to conventional advices from career counselors. I definitely will research basic info.

Should I research the company extensively after I get an interview with them?

colleges.mywebcommunity.org – I found such internship info here. It has lots of internships, job openings and scolarships for college students.

The problem here is a matter of perspective.

A job, and an interview, should be considered as a LEARNING OPPORTUNITY, but it is also a way to sell yourself, promote yourself as a candidate, so you have to know your "opponent", to know what are they looking for. And you can’t do that without research.

Research the company, and think about how you can best fit in, and contribute to the company. THEN you structure your answers based on that thought. Remember, the objective is to let them know how you will benefit THEM by working for them for a pittance, not how much you will learn from them.
