    Rodgers was well …
Rodgers was well before Chris but guys like Chris Cornell are few and far between. Free were a mainstream band that had regular top 10 hits in the UK and the USA. This is what I mean. As all we get now is such as rap (crap). Cornell is good but he’s not having top 10 hits. He should have if it was on talent alone but the music industry is being run by people that promote people who don’t have talent and these are the ones that are in yer face 24/7

All I have to say …
All I have to say is Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Mark Lanegan, and Josh Homme, thats just off the top of my head. Listen to Mad Season – Long gone day, almost anything Cornell has done or Queens of the Stone Age, all are incredibly influenced by the blues. Im not taking away from Rogers but it is still there.

    Saw Paul Rodgers …
Saw Paul Rodgers with Bad Company and he’s the last of that type of singer (influenced by the blues). Listen to a lot of the rubbish that’s out there just now i.e Cold Play … lol

  8. bloobear1 Says:

    Wow thanks for your …
Wow thanks for your input as you seem incredibly knowledgeable about music. So that means that the effect of the blues is diminished on current music. An exception to this is Joss Stone who sings with great phrasing and feeling as she has been influenced by some classic vocalists.

  9. DrRythm Says:

    cos nowdays people …
cos nowdays people are influenced by people who were influenced by people who were influenced by the blues lol:P

    I’m happy for you …
I’m happy for you to argue that Paul Rodgers was the best – mind you, he was up against Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant and (unfashionable now but great then) Rod Stewart – but Paul had the most soul!

  11. Filmitis Says:

    Is Paul Rogers the …
Is Paul Rogers the best rock singer ever. Awesome song.

Wow these guys are pretty good. I’ll be getting a few cds from them apparently!! Wish the best to all.

  16. bloobear1 Says:

    Yes, they aer …
Yes, they aer brilliant. Paul Rodgers has good blues phrasing to his voice. So much better than stuff such as the Arctic Monkeys. Main diffirence is that guys today have not been influenced by the blues as Paul Rodgers was.

My father used to play Free in the stereo when I was quite small and now when I began playing music of myself I “Rediscovered” Free and jesus what a impact that had..

Absolutely one of the better bands out there; This song is verging on the best ever in my book..

    Masterpiece.

    I applaud your good taste.

Free were young and uninhibited, their soul & raw emotion shone through.

Whereas BC joined the commercial treadmill and became restricted to producing commercial success for their sponsors

    I have been lucky …
I have been lucky to see both Free and Bad Company (many many years ago), and I can safely say that live, Paul Rodgers is up there with the best both vocally and with passion. Most blues singers don’t leap around much, he is no exception. but boy, he could hit the notes and make the songs his own.

  21. CaptainGrevious Says:

    His vocals are …
His vocals are without any passion at all. He may as well been reading the words off a page.

    This was released …
This was released on the Album Heartbreaker. I bought it cause the cover looked cool. It didn’t have Alright now on it, but after playing it I loved it.
Koss was on some of it but he was in and out of the band at the time.
I agree a little more Gritty that Bad Co. but love them as well.
Paul Rodgers is one of rocks best singers, not just blues.

    Barely heard a …
Barely heard a trace of this song when it came out in the US in 1973; a shame really because it was qute the swan song for the band.

Originally liked Bad Company better than Free in the mid/late-70’s because at the time i considered Free an early 70’s one-hit wonder and didn’t know too much about the Free/Bad Co. connection. 30+ years later my opinion has changed and now consider Free better than Bad Co. and one of the best blues-rock bands period.

    For anyone over the …
For anyone over the age of 45 this song should mean something, what a great band, with such a sad ending. I love both this song and the band, timeless, and class… enough said I think. RIP Paul
