How do I ask for a raise from a company that isn’t doing well?

October 312009

I know the economy is in bad shape. I work in a creative field in a city that is not very big so my job is hard to find and keep. And the company isn’t doing very well, even though it wastes a lot of money on very unnecessary things. My boss has been clear that I am indispensable, but my Christmas bonus was a joke. And I am way overdue for a raise.
Should I even bother asking for a raise? Or just leave town and head for the east or west coast?

Can I have a raise?

U NO THE COMPANY ISNT DOING WELL AND U WANT A WHAT, be careful asking and knowing u might get a raise u r not looking for like out the door., if things are bad move on, but pushing the wrong button at the wrong time may put u in the ejection seat.

If they don’t have the income to pay you what your worth, then I can understand you leaving this job, However it does not hurt to ask, their financial problems are not yours however you don’t want to be effect by them. So ask for raise, if they say no, I would find another job then put in your last day of work, Don’t burn your bridge when leaving.
